In line with the leadership’s keen interest in all regions of the Kingdom, harnessing their resources, highlighting their competitive advantages, and developing them in general, Royal Decree No. (61856) dated 1443/10/02 H was issued to establish the Strategic Office for the Development of Al Baha Region. The office will work to ensure the implementation of the comprehensive strategy for the development of the region through the core tasks and responsibilities assigned to it and will work to implement them in the required manner to achieve the aspirations and hopes of the leadership.

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Al Baha Region Strategic Development Office:

The Al Baha Region Strategic Development Office is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive development of the region, including:

  • Formulate public policies for the development and growth of the region.
  • Prepare comprehensive plans, studies, and strategic plans for the region and their executive programs.
  • Directly supervise the planning, design, and implementation of strategic programs and projects, as well as any related operations and maintenance work.
  • Review development plans, programs, and projects – related to the work of the office – prepared by government agencies, bodies, and public institutions in the region, to ensure balanced development in the region.
  • Follow up on the planning of infrastructure projects in coordination with the relevant authorities.
  • Prioritize the implementation of programs and projects in the region in accordance with development plans.
  • Follow up on the implementation of programs and projects in the region, and take the necessary steps to ensure their implementation, in coordination with the relevant authorities, and apply urban performance improvement and measurement indicators to them in light of the objectives of the approved development plans.
  • Propose the expropriation of some real estate for the development of the region, in coordination with the governorate of the region and with the relevant authorities, in preparation for completing the regulatory procedures in this regard.
  • Supervise the rehabilitation and improvement of existing urban neighborhoods – including historical neighborhoods – and the treatment, development, and urban, social, economic, security, and environmental upgrading of slums, and take the necessary steps to ensure their implementation.
  • Prepare building controls and land uses that contribute to the implementation of the region’s development and growth plans.
  • Review land division plans.
  • Coordinate and organize efforts between the authorities concerned with the development and growth of the region, in accordance with the approved plans, programs, and projects.
  • Develop the programs, foundations, procedures, and incentives necessary for the private sector to participate in achieving development goals, implementing projects and services, and supervising them.
  • Establish and manage a database and urban information systems, which will be a unified platform and a fundamental reference for the information on which the relevant authorities rely for the development and growth of the region.
